After a string of bad luck, losing his job, and having his dirt bike and ebike stolen out of his garage, the news of getting full factory support and a fresh DH bike couldn't have come at a better time.

Whether you're looking for a roomy bike to cruise or aiming to shred, you can stretch out the fun on a Fueler 22. Mason Ritter shows you how...

The Fueler 22 has the same full Cr-Mo frame, fork and handlebar build as our highest end BMX models. The 22-inch wheels allow a rider to roll faster with more stability than traditional 20-inch wheels while keeping the same playfulness you’ve come to expect from a modern BMX bike. While bigger riders love these bikes, they’re also the perfect rig for any returning rider who thinks a 20 is might be too small and a 24 is for the old dudes.

<![CDATA[Party To The People Tour California]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/party-tour-ca/

You only turn 50 once, so we had to make it special! To celebrate our 50th anniversary we’re bringing together as many friends and fans as possible throughout the year with our Birthday Party to the People tour. GT riders from across the globe are hitting the road to check out some of the sickest, most fun and meaningful spots in the GT world.

Tour number one kicked off at Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA with Wyn Masters, Noga Korem, Hans Rey, Chelsea Wolfe, David Lieb, and Joey Foresta hitting the races and cruising the scene. The crew were then joined by Tristen Cooper and Mason Ritter and headed south to ride killer spots, connect with old friends, and hang with the fans as they made their way to the birthplace of GT - SoCal.

After a rad session at the massive Mosqueda skatepark in Fresno, CA., the next stop was to visit the man who started it all, Gary Turner. The crew took a trip down memory lane as they dug through the archives of Gary’s workshop.

Gary Turner

Along the way, the team stopped at Sheep Hills Trails for a session on the legendary dirt jumps. In the early days of GT, this is where a lot of product testing went down, so it was only right to get in a few laps.

City Grounds, one of our largest BMX retailers, invited the gang to party at their HQ. A wild ramp setup had been built in the warehouse and the team got straight to work putting down some big moves while housing a few tacos in between.

City Grounds

City Grounds 2

From City Grounds, the squad made their way to Laguna for a trail ride with tons of GT legends. Former employees, team riders, and friends of the brand met up for a sunset cruise on the trails that helped shape the early days of GT’s Mountain bikes.

Laguna Trail Group

The crew then kept it moving south to San Diego for a day of skatepark sessions before meeting up with BMX legend, Dave Voelker, for a night rideout around the city. The bikelife community showed up big and we mobbed the streets of downtown late into the night.

Se7en Crew

The trip wrapped up with a visit to Strait Acres to ride and hang with Rachel and Kyle Strait. Tacos, slalom runs, and an afternoon dirt jump session with the homies was a perfect ending to an unforgettable trip.

David Lieb

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us and we can’t wait to keep the good times going!

Stay tuned for the next road trip going down in August starting at the Malvern’s Classic in the UK!

Special Guests: Albert Mercado, Parker Heath, Se7en Crew, Rachel Strait, Big E, Dave Voelker, Ratty Maty, Gary Turner, Brian Lopes, Eddie Fiola.

Leandro Moreira, Gustavo Balaloka, Parker Heath and plenty more put on one hell of a show. In typical Swampfest fashion, things got pretty loose and mother nature opened the floodgates, but that didn't put a damper on the fun. !

<![CDATA[A New Chapter for GTFR]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/GTFR-roster-2022/ New year, new team, same vibe. The GT Factory Racing squad is adding some fresh blood to the 2022 roster, and we’re fired up to get the season started!

2020 Jr World Cup Overall winner, Ethan Craik, will be moving up to accompany Wyn Masters in Elite DH World Cup, and Ryan Pinkerton will join the team as our Junior racer. Hailing from Aliso Viejo, CA, this young speed demon has been making quite a name for himself with his dominant performance in the US DH scene. Don’t let Ryan’s age fool you, this kid is wise beyond his years and ready to prove himself on the world stage.

Ryan Pinkerton

Joining GTFR is the culmination of many years of hard work and is the realization of a long-term dream. I was selected to ride for the GT development team 2 years ago with the goal of being selected to join and represent GTFR and immediately enjoyed the family environment and support at GT. It is hard to put into words how excited I am to have achieved that goal and to have realized my dream. It has been an amazing journey to this point with ups/downs, broken bones and incredible (to me) success. I cannot express how excited and humbled I am to represent GT bikes on the World Cup DH circuit. It will be amazing and exceptional to be supported by a truly world class organization. I look forward to being with the GT team, including riders, coaches and staff and seeing where this part of my life journey leads me and what good times await. -Ryan Pinkerton

Kiwi race and freeride phenom, Jess Blewitt, will also be joining Ethan, Wyn, and Ryan on the DH team in her second year of Elite World Cup racing. Jess linked up with the team last year with the intention of attending a few World Cups, but the vibe was so good she stayed with the team for almost the full year. Although her season ended with a devastating crash in Snowshoe, Jess proved she was a force to be reckoned with, earning 8thplace at World Champs and in Maribor, as well as a 3rd and 2nd in U21 at the EWS and an invitation to Red Bull Formation. At 19-years-old, Jess is only getting started in her riding career and we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes with the GTFR team!

Jess Blewitt

I’m super humbled to have received the support I did throughout the 2021 season from GT, but I’m excited to now officially be joining GTFR for my first professional season. I've been a huge fan of GT bicycles ever since I started riding downhill, and I’m stoked to have the opportunity to ride and work with an amazing team. Can’t wait for some good times ahead! -Jess Blewitt

This year’s Enduro line-up will be led by two female powerhouses – Katy Winton and Noga Korem. Katy is looking to continue to add to her already impressive racing career. Together she and Noga will join Wyn on the EWS circuit. Last year, Katy ran her own program and ended up 9th overall in EWS. With the support of the GTFR team, she will have more time to focus on her riding and training, which will be a huge advantage. The Scotland native is an absolute weapon on the bike, and we cannot wait to see her and Noga dominating the Women’s EWS field!

Katy Winton

I am so excited to join the GTFR crew, to have a big brand supporting a female racer led enduro team was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. After a year running my own program, I realized for me to perform my best I needed a team setup and GT’s investment in ensuring there are good people and support around the athletes made it an easy decision. It’s good vibes already and I can’t wait to get stuck into racing! -Katy Winton

DH World Cup vet, Cam Cole, will also be joining GTFR as Team Performance Manager, supporting rider performance needs and elevating their physical and mental game. With six Elite DH World Cup podiums and a Jr. World Champion title under his belt, Cam knows a thing or two about what’s needed to succeed as a racer. His wealth of experience and down-to-earth mentality will be a priceless asset to the whole crew.

Cam Cole

I’ve come full circle, after 16 years working in various roles across the top level of the mountain bike industry, I’m essentially back where I started. Which is chasing peak performance on the international racing circuit - but this time as a staff member instead of an athlete. The success of GT Factory Racing is something that I am looking forward to contributing to and being a part of for the next two years. I’m extremely grateful to the team and wider GT family who have all welcomed not only myself but all of the new team members onboard and instantly taken us into the family. Looking forward to seeing everyone at all the races in 2022. -Cam Cole

With the stacked crew of Masters, Craik, Korem, Winton, Blewitt, and Pinkerton, we already know it’s going to be a good year. Add in the fact that it is GT’s 50th Anniversary and you have got yourself a recipe for endless GOOD TIMES!

Thank you to all our team partners for their incredible support. Shimano, Fox, Alpinestars, Michelin, OneUp, Stans, Tannus, FSA, Ethirteen, Krush, ODI, GoPro, Nezium, and Prologo.

<![CDATA[One Last Podium with Martin Maes]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/martin-maes-farewell/

We consider our riders to be family, and no one exemplifies that more than Martin Maes. His father, Patric, rode for the brand in the 90’s which means Martin literally grew up in the GT pits. We’ve watched him grow from a shy kid who loved riding bikes to one of the fastest mountain bikers on the planet, all under the guidance of team manager, Mark Maurissen.

"I’ve known Martin and his family since the early ’90s. Well, at least his dad and grandpa! Martin only showed up in 1997. What a ride it has been since then! I’m sad to see him move on, but I’m extremely proud that I’ve had the chance to work so closely on his side along the way. We’ve had ups, downs, many victories, hangovers that come with those, you name it! You’re only getting started in life. I’m convinced you will achieve many more great things in the (near) future and I’ll be cheering you on, no matter what! Cheers Martin, enjoy the ride!"

- Mark Maurissen, GTFR Team Manager

We’ve shared countless memories with Martin over the past 9 years, from numerous podiums as a teenager, his historical back-to-back wins at EWS Whistler, and the DH World Cup in La Bresse, and of course just recently, when he put the new Force Carbon on the top of the EWS podium for the 1st time, and his last time with GT.

"The time spent with Martin was more than a work relationship, it was a journey of growth and memorable accomplishments in so many aspects. Watching him race as a pro at 16 years old and seeing his pure talent was a treat and just knew he was on a path to accomplish great things. Though we shared in many tremendous wins and accolades the memories I will take with me are the talks we had about everything but bikes and racing. Martin is an old soul and cares so much about everyone and everything around him. It has been an honor to watch Martin mature as an incredible athlete but even more so as a man as he evolved from a shy, wide-eyed teenager into one of the sports role models and a doting father. It has been a hell of a ride that I will always cherish. Keep it pinned buddy and keep being you Martino!"

-Steve Spencer, GT Global Sports Marketing Manager

Thank you for all the Good Times, Martino. No matter what logo is who’s on your jersey, you’ll always be a part of the GT family.

Good luck, and we’ll see you at the races!

Take a look back as Martin Maes re-shapes his perspective on racing after entering a new phase of his life, fatherhood. Martin's 2021 Enduro World Series season would start on an immense high with the birth of his daughter, Clementine. A disappointing low would soon follow, when a tough crash in his season opener at La Thuile resulted in a concussion. Sometimes results don't match expectations, but Martin would begin to find his flow and re-build confidence in Crans Montana with a return to the podium, and the flat out race pace he's known for.

It's up to the rider that will put themself in the right headspace to ride the closest to the limit without hitting the ground. It's the flow-state, a new dimension where everything just seems to work flawlessly. It's that feeling of confidence that every racer seeks. It’s something that takes time to reach, it comes with trial and error, adaptation, and a little bit of luck.

It is a process, and we're about to get started. Join Noga Korem, as she looks back at the start of her season and how she found her flow.

<![CDATA[Ending on a High Note - Martin Maes Wins the Final EWS of the Season]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/maes-wins-ews/ “I knew this would happen. So proud!” Victory for Maes

The wet and wild trails of Tweed Valley, Scotland would provide the backdrop for the final EWS race of the 2021 season, and Martin Maes’ return to top step on the podium.

After battling personal ups and downs since his last win in 2019, Maes would finally feel like himself on his bike once again. A tough battle would unfold between himself and Jessie Melamed over the two days of racing, but Martin’s laser precision riding would pay off in the end. Heading into the last stage 2 seconds back on the lead, Martin was determined not to be defeated and gave everything he had to take the stage win and the coveted first place overall of the race.

Noga Korem also adapted well to the cold and slick conditions to ride an incredibly strong race. Maintaining her upbeat attitude and consistent speed over the 6 stages she would finish 4th on the day, and round out the season in 5th overall.

Wyn Masters returned to racing after breaking his hand a few weeks prior and rode into a respectable 46th place.

To top off the day, the team would stand together on the podium as third fastest on the day. A celebratory moment for everyone to relish heading into the off season.

Congratulations to Martin and all-of the GT Factory Racing team for an emotional and action-packed season!

Giving away free helmets, helping get kids rolling on a dependable bike, and generally stoking the fire that is BMX… Rad Share is doing it right! When they first announced the Rumble in Richmond, an awesome fundraising event to help Rad Share reach more kids, GT was immediately onboard and ready to give back! We cruised into Richmond with some team riders and a bunch of stuff to give away—including a handful of complete bikes. We were fully prepared for the good times.

Then there was the pallet grind obstacle, constructed courtesy of the Leeper bros, Latane Coghill, and Profile Racing. And finally, the main attraction was the one and only Rumble in Richmond. A nod to classic mid-school dirt jump contests, featuring a behemoth 26-foot set of doubles that required a full-speed sprint just to clear.

The level of riding was through the roof from the likes of Tommy Crail, Larry Edgar, Nathan Halahan, Chelsea Wolfe, Mykel Larrin, and more. But the culmination of the event belongs to GT’s own, Julian Molina. After he just squeaked over the massive jump with the assistance of a tow-in by Larry Edgar (which was an amazing physical feat for them both), Julian went to the moon when he got towed-in by a motorcycle! Julian’s triumph earned him the Best Trick win and it couldn’t have been a more suiting way to wrap up an incredible event. Safe to say, a lot of kids went home with some fresh parts (or even a new bike) and at the very least, a whole lotta stoke and motivation.

<![CDATA[Brage Brings Home Silver and Fan Favorite | X-Games Real MTB]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/brage-real-mtb/

Brage Vestavik and Blur Media are your X-Games Real MTB silver medalists and Fan Favorite! Despite the dark and gloomy Norwegian woods that it was filmed in, their video shows that the future of freeride is bright! Massive, janky DIY features, crazy drops, short runouts and raw energy made this video a standout that we’ll be watching for years to come.

We sat down with Brage to take a deeper dive into the making of his silver medal winning part.

First off, congratulations on your epic part! It’s gotten a lot of love from the mountain biking community and beyond, what’s it been like seeing the response to the video?

It still feels unreal. I'm seeing all these new comments coming in and I can't believe it's happening. Blur and I were stoked on the video part, but we could never imagine something like this at all. We were thinking ‘oh, maybe someone will feel the vibe, but maybe most people will think it's too rough and hard and stuff’, but to see everyone just loving it is so crazy. And it's also really cool not just comments saying it's sick. It's really amazing to get those comments with a proper meaning. They actually felt something about the edit, and that is really gratifying to see.

You built some pretty epic features for this edit, how many hours did you spend building?

I think I was out in the woods every day from the end of September till the end of January. We were out every day, and I don’t think I've ever ridden that little in my life because it was so much digging. It ended up almost the only days I was riding were the days we were shooting. I think we were digging until like two, three at night on the days before shooting. A lot of the days we were digging, it was more just trying to save the trails rather than building, because of snow and rain. We had to buy more plastic to cover the trails, like the drainages and stuff like that. It was a lot of work. I don't know how many hours, but it felt like living in the woods almost. I just remember walking home every night after midnight, just going to bed and then waking up eating and then going down again. It was just like an ongoing thing. And we couldn't really stop because we saw on the weather forecast that in one week, we have a weekend with no rain so we can finally shoot. We needed to finish the feature because if we couldn’t finish it, we might not get another chance to film. So, every feature was like oh, we finally got a window! We have to workday in and day out to finish it. And then as soon as that was filmed, oh, in two weeks we might get some good weather. We need to finish this one. And then it was just going on like that.

How much help did you have on it? Who was in your build crew?

It was me and two friends mostly, Sondre who is 15, and then Elias who is 14. And they're really into riding as well and they love digging, but they go to school so I normally started off a little bit earlier and they came down to the woods after school. They joined me almost every day and also for the film day, so it was like they've been through the whole process. My dad and my grandpa helped me a little bit. And I also had two other friends helping me on two different features. One of my friends drove down from really high up in Norway, like six hours down, and stayed at my place for three days and we just went through one feature with him, and another friend that came in to help with the drop in the skinny. So, it's a really small crew. It's been cool to just keep it tight as well. So, no one has really known what was going on and we've been this tight crew and just yeah, it's been sick.

You broke your foot towards the end of filming, tell us what happened.

We were trying to refilm a feature, actually. I'm not keen to tell what it is yet… We're going to drop an extended cut that we're working on. That's going to be pretty cool. We're putting all the crashes, all the digging, and everything into one big edit. And since there’s so much hype about what happened, it's like a mystery in the comments I see, we're going to keep it a little bit secret then. And I think we're going to hype it up for the extended cut.

Did your injury cut filming short, or do you feel like you got everything you wanted done?

I think it was actually good that it happened almost because I was so locked into the project. I think I wouldn't have been able to stop until the end, you know what I mean? Because it has been the only thing, I was thinking about from waking up to going to bed. Oh, I want to refilm that, I wanted to add that, I wanted to do that. And actually, that day I was also re-filming the log to log (because we filmed that earlier in October), we were just jumping on to 360 out, but I wanted to add the crank flip up so that was one of the things we added. I think if the ankle wouldn't have happened, we would have just kept going and going. It was actually good that it was just an ankle if you know what I mean. Once that happened, we were like, "Okay. We're done now. It's time to edit it down and finish it.” Before, we thought we needed to really push it to the next level and keep going and keep going, but then realized okay, we're done now. It's time to finish it, yeah.

Was there anything you wanted to get done but had to leave on the table?

No, not really. To be honest, I was really scared to injure myself during the whole project, not to be able to get enough footage. So, just to be able to have enough footage, I'm just really stoked on that because I feel like every feature was pretty sketchy. I was tired from digging. It was wet. [The fact] that mostly everything worked out and that we had enough footage was good enough for me. That was all I could want. I'm stoked! We didn't really plan too many features ahead as well. Most of the features really just happened through the project, like coming up with new ideas. Sometimes it was like oh, we're going to build this, but we ended up building something totally different. So, everything just happened through the whole process.

What was the hardest clip you filmed, whether it was building the feature, landing the trick, or getting over a mental hurdle?

I think the manual to tail whip was really hard on the full suspension. I've done it a few times on the hardtail. I was thinking that was going to be easier, but it was so hard to get the pop right. I had so many slams on that one because popping into the whip, I either went backwards or forwards. The scariest trick to try was the half cab on the skinny. Because we were building that the night before, the drop ended up being a bit higher than I actually thought. I don't know what happened; I think I just blocked it off in my head. I thought it was going to be easier. I was like oh, it's going to be okay, and I just didn't think about it too much. And that day we filmed the 360 off the log first. And then we went to do the skinny half cab and we only had a few hours left with light because the days were really short, so we just went in. And it wasn't until I was standing on the skinny, I was like, "Oh, sh*t. This is really f*cked." Yeah, and that ended up being I think one of the hardest sessions just to get that clip. The first time I tried, I missed the rear wheel and I fell backwards, and I had a really hard slam on my head. And after that slam, we went in really deep into that session. We didn't really talk to each other. We were just like, "Ah!" just screaming and trying to get that clip. And it was so scary. I was so f*cking scared to try it again. But I was standing on the top of the skinny. I always started on the top just to get in the flow. And everyone was like, "AHHH!" just screaming to get it. It was so gnarly. And after I landed it, f*ck, I was so f*cked. My head was just hurting, and I was just lying on the ground and the boys were just helping me out from the woods and stuff. It was pretty gnarly.

What was your favorite clip you filmed? Why?

Probably the half cab skinny. The thing that made that one really hard is that I don't have a free coaster. So, it made me do a ... not a half crank, but a little one that I had to stop backwards that made it really tricky. I don't know if people see that though. Probably people think I have a freecoaster.

A lot of people have commented that your features and drops are so massive, but the runouts are super short. How did you handle that, and why didn’t you build out more of a runway for yourself?

Yeah. To be honest, I didn't really think about it too much because that's how it always been around here because every hill ... There are some really cool hills. I love those woods and the vibes in those woods and the terrain and stuff, but they're really short. Mostly from when I was a kid, every trail we built just ended like that. So, I see everyone says like, "Oh, no run outs," and stuff. I didn't really think about it because I'm so used to that. And I feel like maybe some of the other riders were thinking like oh, we need to do this trick, we need to add a spin on this trick and to do that. But we were just so stoked to be a part of it, so we were more like okay, let's just do our thing and just be super stoked to just show that, if you know what I mean. We weren’t really pushing for any world firsts and stuff. It was just really doing what we really love. And one thing I can add to that is I'm not watching too many mountain biking videos to get inspired. I'm watching a lot of skating, I'm watching a lot of BMX, skiing. And I feel like some of the features were really inspired by that as well. You can probably see from BMX as well.

You are super tight with your film crew, Blur Media, tells us about the process of how you work together to build your vision and execute a project like this.

It was a really free form. I remember I was actually in Oslo with Blur, working on finishing that B-Rage edit from that trail in Trysil, and we got the invite and of course we thought it was fake and we didn't really believe it. But once we had a meeting with Clay [Harper] and it was real, we of course came up with a lot of ideas and stuff and we planned a lot of stuff, but it ended up just being a big free format thing. We ended up with totally different stuff during the project. And I feel like that's when we work the best as well, when we're just throwing ideas all the time, drawing stuff. Everything was really a free format. And also with the edit, it all came down to that last week when we were editing. Blur and I are almost like we're best friends. When I jumped in the call with you now, I was just talking to Hermon, just chatting. I think we're talking every day and just throwing ideas, drawing stuff we want to film. And also, during the project they came to me to help me dig a few days, came down the nights before to help me finish the feature. If they weren’t there, I was calling them on video chat like, "Oh, what do you think about this feature? What do you think about this idea?" It was also editing a little bit during the project. We were always working on the edit together and it almost feels like I'm filming and they're riding sometimes. It feels like we're doing the same thing because we're so into it. Yeah, it's really cool. Yeah, it's just natural and we're not scared to tell each other stuff, and everyone is kind of on the same vibe as well. I couldn't ask for any better team. It just feels like just friends. It's so cool.

How does it feel to win the Silver Medal?

Dude, it feels so unreal. It's between [Brandon] Semenuk and [Cam] Zink and it's the guys that I've looked up to. I remember when I was seven years old, Zink was one of my biggest idols. I got ‘New World Disorder 7’ and I watched it every day. And to be in a podium with him, I think it's going to take some time to really understand it.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank?

I would like to thank the whole mountain bike scene for appreciating the edit. I never thought anything like this would happen at all and to see all that love is just ... It's so cool. I feel like Blur and I have had kind of a vision of what we like the last few years and we put out a few edits and stuff. And of course, we went a little bit harder now, but I feel like it's still kind of the same vision and it's so cool to finally see that other people see it as well.

And of course, for the project I would like to thank everyone involved. Of course, Blur, the builders, my dad, my family. Yeah, of course my family, just coming home every night, helping me, getting me some food, washing my clothes and all that stuff. Yeah, it's a tight group, but I can't thank them enough because without them it wouldn't mean anything.

I also want to thank Mysen, my local town, because I think it's so cool that everything is just two minutes out from my doorstep down in this small town. And in the beginning, I was like well, I want to go big, and I feel like we don't have the biggest hills and we don't ... I don't know how I'm going to do it. Like Zink got all this big stuff in Utah and Semenuk is going to go to all these places. F*ck, how am I going to [go big]? I want to do some crazy stuff too. But now I'm really happy that it happened in this small place because I think it made me think ... It makes you think differently. It pushes you to go. You need to use what you have. You have just 20 meters down and okay, what can you do here? And so, now I'm just super stoked that everything happened here. I really wanted a big drop, like a big send, and that was the only place I could find around those houses and stuff, and it just gives that cool vibe in it. It's on the top of the hill and the landing is in the bottom and that's just because that's the biggest hill we got.

Chelsea Wolfe spent a few days in San Diego recently and had the opportunity to catch a session with Ratty Maty, DeMarcus Paul, and Albert Mercado at a classic SD spot, the Home Ave ditch. The fabled ditch has been a staple spot for multiple generations of riders. And while sessions at the spot have become less prevalent recently, due in part to the skatepark boom of recent years and the abundance of shady characters who now call the ditch home, all of that just adds to the appeal of the spot and in no way makes it any less fun!

<![CDATA[Good Times Tour UK]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/good-times-tour/

As winter in the UK set in, GT Factory Racing teammates, Wyn Masters, and Ethan Craik, linked up with Coalition rider, Rob Webb, to search out some Good Times before the weather took a turn for the worst. The crew hopped in the van for a 2-day trip hitting a few of their favorite spots.

The crew kicked off the trip with some laps at Rob's local spot, before heading to Bath for a night of street riding.

The alarm was set for an early start the next day to hit up a secret spot with killer tracks. Despite Rob getting his truck epically stuck in the mud, the good times continued as the boys made their way to the Forest of Dean to shred some steeps.

After a day in the woods the crew headed to Bristol for a sunset pump track session.

The last stop of the tour was at Prevail Skatepark for a chill session before everyone went their separate ways.

There's nothing better than loading up the van with a solid group of friends for a few days of shredding and hanging out. Until next time, keep the good times rolling!

<![CDATA[Adeus e Obrigado Bernardo Cruz]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/Adeus-Bernardo-Cruz/

It is with much sadness that we bid adieu to the nicest man in mountain biking with the meanest whip - Bernardo Cruz. When we met Bernardo in 2010 we immediately fell in love with him, and felt like he had to be a part of the GT family. At the time he was racing WC's and killing the whip game but was rapidly becoming the face of gravity cycling in Brazil. Over the years Nardo became a global household name, a skilled racer, whip master and a hero of urban DH. It has truly been many years of Good Times with Nardo, and we are devastated to see him go, but we know it's his time to move on to a bright new future.

Adeus e Obrigado Bernardo Cruz!

"Bernardo has always been our little Brazilian brother with the biggest heart. Full of positivity and willing to help anyone at any time he is one of the most genuine and selfless people you will ever meet. But behind the humble smile and calm demeanor is one of the nastiest whips in the game and smooth style. Every moment spent with Nardo has been memorable and will greatly miss chasing him around. Much love amigo and all the best in your future." -Steve 'Coach' Spencer, Sports Marketing Manager

"Nardo! I feel like it was just yesterday when we first met in Whistler in 2011!

Incredible how fast time passes, from our many laps in Whistler to an incredibly memorable ride in Les Gets in summer 2018 (one of my first big rides back from my injury!). Thank you for being an incredible athlete, friend, and ambassador for the sport. I’ve always admired your ability to make time for everyone and treat everyone with kindness. We are all lucky to have worked with you for so many years.

Change is progress and inevitable in many ways! Stoked to hear about the next chapter of your career. We’ll always cherish the moments we’ve had and looking forward to seeing you putting many more smiles on people's faces." -Andrew Cho

"Bernardo it’s always been a good time together! Our time at Valpo last year was nothing but good times and I’m going to miss you on GT, now I’ve gotta make it to Brazil to check out your epic spot and help with some coaching one day. All the best for your new endeavors bro, awesome to see you pushing the sport so well in Brazil!" -Wyn Masters

"Great Nardini! I still remember the first time I saw you hit Crabapple in Whistler...and I was like damn, that Brazilian kid can whip better than all of us, and we're all f*cked! Didn't know that we'd end up on the same team at some point, and once we got to ride together more you quickly became one of my favorite people to get sideways with and share a good laugh. Bummed to see you leave the GT fam but I'm stoked for what you have to come, and I hope to crack some whips with you sometime soon amigo!" -Tyler McCaul

"It was such a hard decision to change because I can honestly say that GT was super important to help myself to have my house, my car, to build up my life. I just have to say thanks and to be thankful for all of these years, to all of these good moments and good memories. You guys for sure make part of my history and this is going to be forever.

The best thing about GT for me is that it's not just about good results it's about having fun with the bikes, having fun with friends. This for me means love because when we love bikes we just have good times and good moments with friends. This is the most important thing about GT. You don't have to be the fastest guy or the best guy you just have to have your bike, have good times with friends, and enjoy the moment. That's why I love GT so much." -Bernardo Cruz

We love you too Nardo. Boa Sortel!

<![CDATA[GTFR Playing It Fast In Lousa]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/Lousa-recap/

The GT Factory Racing team capped off the DH World Cup season with a doubleheader in Lousa, Portugal last weekend. It was a rough and natural track, but fair weather conditions kept it running well for both rounds. Wyn Masters and Martin both had positive weekends, but the big story of the event was first-year Junior Ethan Craik.

In round 3 Ethan put down an absolutely flawless run, giving him his first World Cup win in his first season. Going into the final race, Ethan was sitting in 2nd place overall, and only a few points shy of the junior overall title. Ethan kept his run smooth and consistent, picking up another podium with a 3rd place finish. This would be all he needed to take the overall title! Despite being a short, intense, and unusual season, Ethan kept his composure and stayed consistent in every round. We couldn’t be more proud of Ethan and we can’t wait to see what he does in a full season!

Team Manager, Mark Maurissen, couldn’t be more stoked for his junior rider, “So happy for Ethan to make the transfer from BMX to DH the way he’s doing! He’s a born racer. With his skills he will get faster race by race!”

Muddy would be an understatement to describe the World Champs track in Leogang. Riders could only hold on for dear life and hope to get down the hill in one piece. Not only was it Noga Korem's first World Champs, but it was the first time Israel had a female racer in the event and she made sure to make her country proud. Noga put it all on the line and cracked the top 10, landing herself in 8th place! It was also the first World Champs for Junior, Ethan Craik, who battled his way through the brutal conditions into 11th on the day. This was Wyn Masters' 11th World Champs of his career and the toughest one yet. Wyn would hold on for 39th and happy to finish the day with no major issues. It was definitely a World Championships for the books!

<![CDATA[A Lap Down B-Rage]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/lap-down-brage/

The Making of B-Rage

An Interview with Brage Vestavik

How did this new trail come about? Was it something you’ve been planning for a while?

I’ve loved trail building since I started riding, but I have always just been building by hand. So, to get a big crew of shapers and machines has been a dream for years. I have been riding for Trysil Bike Arena for a few years, just haven’t been digging for them until this year. Me and the Boss Olve have been talking about building my own section for a while and we finally made it happen this summer. So pumped and really thankful Trysil Bike Arena gave me this opportunity and trusted me.

Why Trysil? How did your connection with the arena start?

I have always been a fan of Trysil and how they get normal people into loving bikes. Everyone can enjoy Trysil and I’m having as much fun on the blue trail as the black trail. The trails have a lot of variation and gives you a good opportunity to be creative. Riding around in the park is like an adventure in the woods, haha! I started riding for Trysil Bike Arena a few years ago and been loving it. To see families and people that never rode before smile and love it, inspires me a lot. It also fits really well because it’s a GT Bike park and if I were to say one word about the park, it would be GoodTimes.

What was your inspiration for the track? Did you model it after something you’ve ridden before or is it something that you haven’t seen and wanted to ride?

I think most of the inspiration for the track just comes out from my head and imagination. From things I have seen in edits and places I have been riding. When I was about 7 years old I got my first MTB DVD, called NWD 7. Legendary movie. I watched that every day and other DVDs seeing the Freeriders build stuff out in the woods. I started building in my yard at that time and had trails in my yard till I was around 14. For sure a lot of inspiration from that time. To be honest, I didn’t plan too much. We waked the track before building it and had an idea of where it was going and kinda went from there the day after. I had some features in mind, but a lot of the digging was freestyle.

You’ve built a ton of trails in the past, but this was your first time working with big machines. What was that like?

It was really cool to just point and than 30 minutes later there is a huge pile of dirt moved by the machine. The fast progress was for sure fun. It was also pretty different and hard to have that fast progress. Normally when I’m digging with spade we can spend a few weeks working on one jump, and you can test and get the speed right. Now, building with a few machines, suddenly we had 3 jumps in a row without testing one of them, and they just had to work haha. So, I have defiantly learned a lot.

Do you prefer the big equipment or building by hand?

It’s hard to say what I prefer… it depends what and how big you are building, also how much time you have before it has to be done haha. But by heart I think the shovel and hands stand the closest! Most of the work I have been doing during this project has been by spade, anyway, shaping and making everything smooth by hand tools.

What was the hardest part of building this trail?

The long steep landing of the step down near the bottom was defiantly one of the hardest parts. To shape and pack it, we had to use ropes and a few people up and down the steep hill with the heavy Wackerpacker. But the whole build in general was pretty hard for the body. Getting up at 6 every day and digging around 12 hours a day gets heavy after 3 weeks. We kinda had to be done with the trail and filming it within one month. The last few days of digging was heavy, and I ended up pretty burnt out in bed sweating for a few days before we started filming. To cover the whole trail in the next few days we had to go deep in the sesh, with filming from morning till night. But super stoked we got everything done! :) That whole month is one of the sickest, but also one of the heaviest months of my life.

What’s your favorite feature of the track?

I’m stoked on how the trail flows together and that you have different options to ride a few of the features. But I think my favorite feature on the track must be the wall ride section with the small hip into the wooden wall ride. You also have an option to ride the small hip straight and just use the lip for the wall ride as a step down! Good Fun! :)

What was the inspiration for the big boner log entry to the track?

Its inspiration from old school free ride for sure. I love that stuff and have always loved it since I was a kid. I used to build skinnies like that in the garden when I was a kid, just not as tall as this haha. And it’s cool to start the trail off with a proper send. The start of the trail is also located in a really public place, and I think the big wooden drop looks really cool and sets the vibe for the trail.

What do you think people will enjoy most about the trail?

I think people will enjoy that it’s pretty different than any other Bike Park trails, especially in Norway. I feel most Bike Park trails you can just do lap after lap. But I feel this trail is more like a line of Dirt Jumps, the features are steeper and more tech. You kinda get more respect for the features and it’s enough to just sesh a few of the jumps in the trails rather than doing lap after lap. I miss that sesh feeling in the Bike Parks, it used to be a lot more of that when I was a kid and Dirt Jumping was more popular.

The weekend we released the edit we went up to Trysil to have a little test session on the trail with a few of my friends in Norway and honestly its been a long time since I’ve seen them that stoked. They had never seen any of the trail before and we just went to the top of the trail and worked our way down. We didn’t hype up the session for the public, but we still got a big crowd of hyped people and kids watching, loving it, it was so awesome to see. It was almost as cool to see them ride it than for me to ride it for the first time. To see the stoke and the screams from them hitting the features was such a sick feeling.

What was the most fun part of building the track?

The whole building process was so much fun and everyone had such a good time together. Such a cool little group of people. We had a lot of fun together every day and we figured out everything together. Everyone talked together and agreed before moving on. Times I will remember for the rest of my life and I think everyone learned bit from everyone.

Do you have any plans on building more tracks like this?

I would definitely love to build more like this in the future. This trail is a double black and has some big gaps, but I think it would be really cool to build something in-between this trail and what’s already in Trysil. I don’t have anything this big planned at the moment, but I would love to work on something next year for sure! :)

I’m in my hometown Mysen at the moment and super fired up to start digging some new stuff I’ve been thinking about all summer here in the local woods by spade!

What is your long term hopes that this trail will bring to Trysil?

I hope it will bring some stoked people. Especially stoked kids that can shred it in the future. I even think it’s really good for the little kids to just ride past and see, so they know it’s possible to ride, and have something to dream about riding in the future. I also really hope we can bring some international riders over to shred and enjoy the trail! It would also be awesome to run sessions and a jam with my friends from around the world! I wanna bring the stoke and the love for bikes. I’m pretty sure it will bring that after seeing the riders from the test session.

You have been working with the Blur media guys for a while and always keep it creative and fresh. What was your filming goals working with them?

I love working with my bros, Blur Media. Always good times and we always go deep in the sesh. I just want everyone to perform the best they could. Everyone work so well together, and we are not afraid to tell each other stuff. They got a new camera, and this was our first project with it. Working with two big cameras was really helpful for everyone. I would say my filming goal working with them, is just to go out there and do our thing. Normally, we don’t plan stuff too much, we just go out there and make it happen. I feel like we are always creative and are able to come up with some sick stuff together.

Stoked on everything and can’t wait for more! :)

After a long wait, the 2020 Enduro World Series season finally kicked off in Zermatt, Switzerland. Due to crazy weather conditions including freezing temperatures, torrential rain, and snow flurries, the race was shortened to two stages as a safety precaution. Wyn Masters had a solid day, finishing 26th, and of course, kicking off his Wyn TV series after the race. Noga Korem had a bit of bad luck on stage one with a mechanical, which would take her out of contentions for the podium. Martin Maes started his season off on the right foot, finishing second on the day. It was a wild start to the season but the team was stoked to get back to some racing!

DeMarcus Paul on GT? You heard right! And we couldn't be more stoked! At the time he was starting to blow up and got his first signature line by the time GT was in a good place to reach out. Not wanting to disrupt what he had going on, we decided to hold off. Low and behold 5 years later the opportunity presented itself to talk to DeMarcus and we had Jeff Z reach out. The rest is now GT history."

<![CDATA[Wyn Masters' World Champs Fury]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/wyn-masters-bike-check/ The Maori Marble Masterpiece

The UCI World Championships is one of the most anticipated downhill events of the season. Every year, riders not only bring their A-game to the track but to their bike too. From custom color and graphics to super blinged-out rigs, riders pull out all the stops for Worlds, and Wyn Masters is no different.

For the 2019 World Champs, Wyn partnered with Lars Diedenhofen from 70id to come up with this Maori Marble Masterpiece. The inspiration for the marble paint scheme came from a bike Wyn saw fellow Kiwi, Casey Brown, ride. Since black and white are the national NZ colors, Wyn figured "it would be cool for a Worlds bike". Wyn says his favorite aspect of the bike is "the WynTV logo along with the NZ fern...have to say, this is my favorite Worlds bike so far."

Wyn isn’t too picky about his set up, “I’m more of a set and forget kinda rider,” he claims, “but I do like my brakes to be quite even and have the same bite point, so sometimes that can take some extra bleeds.” When you’re pinning it down some of the gnarliest tracks in the world, it’s always nice to know your brakes are dialed!

He teamed up with GT and Industry 9 shredder David Lieb to share their combined passions for two-wheeled sports in 4TheKidInYou. Join Ronnie and David in FL for some pure good times.

Also, a special thanks to Industry Nine who has stepped up to help battle the COVID-19 outbreak. Partnering with other local North Carolina based companies, they're assisting in the production of much-needed PPE materials to manufacture 1,000,000 face shields a month. However, they're still looking to do more. As they continue to pivot their manufacturing efforts towards combating the virus, please share any tips or contacts on how they can use their machine shop to assist in machining components for ventilators to theeffort@industrynine.net.

<![CDATA[Mountain Bike Legend Chris Akrigg Joins the GT Bicycles Family ]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/welcome-chris-akrigg/

Wilton, Conn. – February 3, 2020 – GT Bicycles, a brand of Dorel Industries, Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A), is proud to welcome mountain bike (and all-around cycling) legend Chris Akrigg to the family for 2020.

Since first popping onto the scene many years ago, Chris Akrigg has always had an amazing talent for riding bikes. Hailing from Yorkshire, England, Chris began his career as a trials athlete becoming a six-time British Trials Champion and winner of several Red Bull contests including the Red Bull Bike Battle, Red Bull Cobble Wobble, and the Red Bull Mini Drome in London.

However, Chris is probably most famous for sharing his bike-handling skills with the globe through insane self-produced video edits like A Hill in Spain and As It Lies. His unique style and ability to ride any terrain on all kinds of sketchy setups on a wide variety of bikes, has created a huge fanbase throughout the bike community.

When opting for the right rig to ride across one of his haphazard DIY setups for an edit, Chris says that he loves to mix things up and challenge himself. “The inspiration to how I pick my bike normally comes from just finding a cool location,” he said. “That’s my favorite part of riding – working out how to ride in a new place, and finding lines where there aren’t really any...As for bike choice, I feel it sort of goes through a cycle, I try not to ride one bike too much, but my favorites are trial and enduro bikes.”

After being asked about what he has up his sleeve for 2020, Chris mentioned that he a few plans, “but you’ll have to wait and see! I have a new fleet of bikes and my motivation and inspiration are high, and I can’t wait to get stuck into my first project under the GT banner.”

The team at GT is looking forward to seeing how Chris will continue to amaze audiences around the globe with his off-the-wall stunts in the next year.

<![CDATA[Norwegian Shred-Viking Brage Vestavik to Ride for GT Bicycles in 2020]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/welcome-back-brage/

Wilton, Conn. – January 24, 2020 – GT Bicycles, a premium brand of Dorel Industries (TSX: DII.B, DII.A), welcomes Brage Vestavik of Norway back to the brand as a global athlete.

A self-proclaimed “shred-Viking,” Brage rips on any bike he picks up; from BMX to Downhill, he attacks the terrain with the same savagery and capability. “There are a lot of new bikes since the last time I rode for GT, so I’m pumped to ride them all,” Brage said when asked about the bikes he’ll be riding this year. “I’m really excited about the Force; I think it will be my go-to bike for everything, from street to DH to the bike park. I’m also really keen to ride a BMX bike at some point too.”

In addition to competing at core events like Down Hill World Cups and Red Bull Hardline, Brage creates some of the wildest videos on the internet. His Instagram series, #b_rage, a collection of kooky clips, Brage manages to capture on a daily basis, is always a top trending hit. In fact, his latest shred-it, “Time is Now,” had the internet buzzing – it was viewed over 60,000 times in less than a month!

When not riding, Brage can be found digging at his local trails and creating new weird and interesting features. He’s a dedicated builder who loves immersing himself in his work, “When I’m working on a feature, that’s all I’m thinking about,” he explained. “Even when I’m not digging, I’m thinking about that feature, how I’m going to finish it, ride it, or film it.” This year, Brage will work as a trail builder at GT-sponsored Trysil Bike Arena in Trysil, Norway.

“Trysil will be the first bike park I’m able to help with building, so I’m really excited for that! I have some cool ideas!” Brage added, “What I love about Trysil is that everyone can have fun there, I have the same amount of fun on the Blue trail as the Black trail.”

Over the next year Brage will continue to build unique setups and produce mind-blowing content. When asked about his plans for 2020, Brage said, “I’m just keen to ride and have as much fun as possible! I’ll do a few races, go to some cool events, ride Trysil Bike Arena a lot, build trails and film. I’ll be working on an edit with my good friends, Blur Media, that I’m super excited about. I’m also really keen for Red Bull Hardline again!”

<![CDATA[David Lieb Steps Up to GT Bicycles’ Wing Project]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/david-lieb-wing-project/

Wilton, Conn. – January 22, 2020 – GT Bicycles, a premium brand of Dorel Industries, Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A), today announced the newest addition to the Wing Project – David Lieb. While part of the GT family since 2018, David now joins the ranks of the brand’s elite ambassadors including Hans Rey, Tyler McCaul, Rachel Strait, Bernardo Cruz, and Tom Isted.

Since joining GT, David has competed in some of the biggest slopestyle events against the best riders in the world. In 2018, David took home third at the Fox US Open Whip Off, in Killington, Vermont. He also put down one of the best performances of his career at the 2019 Fox US Open of Slopestyle at Highland Mountain Bike Park where he threw down banger after banger against the likes of Nicholi Rogatkin, Erik Fedko, and fellow GT athlete Tom Isted which landed him on the top step of the podium.

“The first time I saw David ride was on the webcast of the Colorado Freeride Fest. I had never heard of him and was blown away when he dropped in and started absolutely slaying the course,” said Tyler McCaul upon his first encounter with David. “It’s been fun watching him grow as a rider since then. The kid rips at everything he does and couldn’t possibly be any nicer of a dude. Welcome to the team Liebster!”

David Lieb came up through the Michigan BMX scene where he looked up to riders like Chris Heath, Brandon Dosch, and Danny Gallup. “The Michigan shredders definitely helped me get to where I am today.” However, it was working as a mechanic at Spoke Life Cycles bike shop in Ohio where David was able to sink his teeth into MTB. “The transition just made sense with my riding style and the things I wanted to be doing with my bike!” So, after making the transition from BMX to mountain biking, David never really looked back.

“We’ve known Dave since he was a kid, a shop employee, and now as a pro,” said Don DiBartolomeo. “We knew he was destined for greater things. He’s truly what this sport needs, and we’re stoked for the world to see his impact.”

As a member of the Wing Project David will continue to travel the globe competing in as many slopestyle and FMB events as possible, with a goal to earn a spot at Red Bull Joyride during this year’s Crankworx Whistler. GT Bicycles is excited to see what David unleashes on the scene next.

<![CDATA[GT Factory Racing Adds Denim Destroyer Johannes von Klebelsberg and British Ripper Ethan Craik to 2020 Roster]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/2020-GTFR-Team-Announcement/ Wilton, Conn. – January 15, 2020 – GT Bicycles, a premium brand of Dorel Industries (TSX: DII.B, DII.A), and GT Factory Racing (GTFR) today announced exciting changes the 2020 team roster. New riders Johannes von Klebelsberg (IT) and Ethan Craik (UK) will join seasoned vets Wyn Masters, Martin Maes, and #2 ranked Noga Korem.

“I’m stoked to have Johannes and Ethan join the crew for some fast racing and good times,” said Maurissen, GTFR Team Manager. “When you add Martin, Noga and Wyn into the mix, you know we’re in for another spectacular season. Fans can expect some more crossover between EWS and DH too. We’ll see you soon at the races!”

No stranger to the UCI Downhill World Cup series, Johannes raced for MS Mondraker during the 2018 season, then as a privateer in 2019. Working in his family’s restaurant in Munich, Germany funded Johannes’s race season. He even raced with a phone in his pocket in case of a work emergency. Johannes is excited to shed his privateer status because “being part of GTFR means that I’ll have bigger opportunities and more time to work on technical aspects of the sport.” He added, “I will have more free time at race weekends next season, and I will use that time to work on skills that could make me a faster racer.

Aside from being one of the fastest privateers on the circuit, Johannes quickly became a fan favorite last season for his unconventional use of denim jeans as racing pants, earning him the nickname “Denim Destroyer.” Johannes has no plans of hanging up the jeans any time soon, “I’ll keep my denims, and Alpinestars can help me finally get some good-looking ones!”

2020 will be Ethan Craik’s first year racing in the Downhill World Cup. His BMX racing background has given him some serious bike handling skills which he’s excited to unleash on the steep tracks of the World Cup. “I’ve always wanted to race at the top level in my sport, and I’m so thankful for GT giving me this amazing opportunity,” said Ethan. “To ride and have fun with a selection of the sport’s greatest like Martin, Wyn and Noga is truly amazing.” Since breaking onto the scene, Ethan has been running the mixed wheel set up that has paid dividends for Martin, and he’s excited to keep dialing it in with the GTFR team.

As GT welcomes new additions to the team, the brand will say goodbye to others. After an eventful two years, George Brannigan will part ways with GTFR. Joey Foresta will continue on as GT’s North American gravity assassin with a focus on marquee gravity events in US and Canada including the Pro GRT, Sea Otter, Crankworx and more.

Tyler McCaul has been a part of the Rampage family since he first watched his big brother Cam huck himself off the Utah cliffs back in 2008. Since those early years, he's grown from grom spectator to 'El Nino' of Rampage to being one of the staple athletes to come back and better himself year after year.

For 2019, Tyler and fiancee Skye made the move from California to Virgin, Utah, so Tyler could dig, ride, and prepare for Rampage like he's never been able to before. We spent a few days with Tyler at his new home as he waits for the perfect break between windstorms, fine-tunes his arsenal of tricks and allows himself the time needed to be as ready as he can be for the most insane event of the year.

"This year at Rampage we're riding for Jordie Lunn, who was just as much family to me as he was a friend. A one of a kind human who could change the mood of any room he walked into for the better. Forever Jordie Lunn... Forever Rough AF." - Tyler.

<![CDATA[Going out on a high note!]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/2019-season-ending/

Martin Maes wraps up the 2019 Enduro World Series season with a decisive win! The Swiss high alpine trails and the Matterhorn served as the stage for the exciting season finale' where Martin would win three of the five stages.

After catching his breath the blazing Belgian shared his excitement. "This win has a special taste for sure. I’ve never thought coming back racing after a 3 months break would be so difficult. Saturday night crossing the finish line was a big relief. I’m ready for next year already and more excited than ever!"

For Noga Korem it would be a bittersweet race. Noga had already locked in 2nd place overall for the season but wanted to conclude the season with an exclamation point but a mechanical on the first stage would leave her unable to pedal for the first three stages costing her valuable time. Before stage #4 she was able get her bike fixed and finished an adrenaline fed stage #4 and #5 with a 2nd and a 4th place.

Noga recapped her weekend and season. "The year was a dream season for the last race. Super happy to finish seven of the eight races this year in the top-five. Felt great in training and was ready to fight for the win. All was going well until five minutes into stage until #1 I had a mechanical so unfortunately I was not able to prove what I felt I could do. Super fired up to train hard in the off season and look forward to some great racing in 2020!"

It was a tough weekend for Wyn Masters but proved his consistency during the season and would finish out the year with a 22nd overall. Don't expect Wyn to have much of an off season as he continues to travel and ride more more incredible trails around the world.

The 2019 season had its ups and downs but the GT Factory Racing Team always kept it fun and shared in the good times with all who rolled along with them. Time to relax, recalibrate and set goals for the 2020 season which is sure to be a great one! Thank you to all of the great GT staff, team partners, family, friends and fans who continue to support the team! Cheers!

<![CDATA[Martin Maes Announcement]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/Martin-Maes-Announcement/ On May 21, 2019, GT Factory Racing athlete Martin Maes was notified by the Cycling Anti-doping Federation (CADF) of an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) for a prohibited substance. There was a high level of Probenecid in his test samples from EWS Round 1 in New Zealand and EWS Round 2 in Tasmania in March 2019. Probenecid is on the UCI’s List of Prohibited Substances and Methods. The Probenecid and a related antibiotic were prescribed by an official race doctor at the New Zealand Enduro to help treat a serious infection in Martin’s leg.

Martin Maes

According to the official race doctor:

Martin sustained a lower leg laceration which developed a serious infection while racing the New Zealand Enduro (March 8-10, 2019). The infection was worsening despite standard doses of antibiotics, and it had the potential to become life-threatening. The doctors at the New Zealand Enduro elected to add Probenecid, which is commonly used to boost blood levels of penicillin-type antibiotics, and it was effective in treating Martin’s infection. It is a common part of all of our practices to use this medicine in the setting of serious infection."

“At the time, neither the volunteer medical team nor Martin considered that Probenecid would be on the banned substance list. It has no performance enhancing effects, and in fact, Martin’s performance was likely to have been impaired in the weeks following due to the severity of the infection.” - Dr. Tom Jerram MBChB (Hons) FACEM Emergency Physician and Volunteer Medical Director of the New Zealand Enduro.

Martin Maes

On June 1, 2019, Martin received a denial for his Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) request. While the CADF TUE committee recognized the Probenecid was purely for medical reasons and that it would not have provided additional enhancement to Martin’s performance, the TUE was still not approved.

GT Factory Racing fully supports Martin Maes in this situation due to the understanding that neither he, nor the team, took any actions to intentionally violate anti-doping rules or regulations. On the contrary, Martin inquired with the official race doctors if the prescriptions they had given him were acceptable for use by a UCI athlete and the race doctors were acting within their clinical responsibility to treat a potentially life-threatening infection in Martin’s leg.

GT Factory Racing is committed to creating and fostering an environment where riders can perform to the best of their ability, within all rules and regulations mandated by the governing body of the sport. GT invests in teams and athletes because of the love of the sport, and racing is a way to connect with their passionate fan base.

Each GT team and rider understands that support comes with strict requirements regarding the rules and regulations that govern the sport. It is for this reason that Martin will accept the UCI’s ruling.

Martin Maes

I’m speechless at the moment. My entire life has been dedicated to cycling and racing since 2013. I’ve trained so hard to make my dreams come true. There was an emergency to treat an infected wound, and we did not double-check the prescription from the doctors. This is our sole mistake. Now, it’s time to face the situation, train harder than ever, and get back very soon to convert that frustration into pleasure and performance on my bike.

The UCI complies with a set of strict rules and regulations, but also fully acknowledged the circumstances and that this was not a deliberate violation of any antidoping rules. As a result, Martin will be prohibited from racing for a period of ninety days. He will be disqualified from rounds 1 and 2 of the EWS and will be required to pay a fine of 2,500CHF. However, his win and results from EWS Madeira will not be affected as he returned a negative test result after going through doping controls at this event.

Martin is and will remain an advocate for clean and fair racing. He will return to the season stronger than before. Meanwhile, he’ll stand next to his teammates and will fully support them during the next Enduro World Series’ events.

<![CDATA[The La Bomba Life Featuring David Lieb]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/the-la-bomba-life-david-lieb/

Straight out of the box, the La Bomba is an incredible build. I have ridden quite a few other stock dirt jump bikes in the past and I can honestly say not a single one matches up to the feeling of the La Bomba unless you upgrade a bunch of components. I set up my personal La Bomba with a BMX style Gyro and a mechanical disc brake for all of the barspins/tailwhips I do. Other than that, I just make sure I run my fork at max PSI with the lowest compression setting, and the middle setting on rebound. Everything else is pretty standard and feels a lot like the stock bike. - David Lieb

<![CDATA[History Made. Again.]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/history-made-again/ Race Season Has Officially Begun

GT Factory Racing's Team Camp just wrapped in New Zealand. The riders and staff used this time to dial-in their bikes with some pre-season races. Then, the team headed to the first stop of the Crankworx series with George Brannigan and Wyn Masters both landing on the podium in separate events. To wrap it all up, Martin Maes took every single stage win at the EWS... and GT Factory Racing won 'fastest team' honors!

GTFR Rotorua

Everyone got a result we can be very proud of. Martin topping it off, winning every single stage, collecting the maximum points for the first EWS! It was so good to have both our EWS and DH team together. We are all leaving Rotorua charged with good vibes and a comfortable feel on the bike heading into the season! Cheers! - Mark Maurissen, GTFRTeam Manager

"The day couldn’t have gone any better. I have never had a good race over here in Rotorua the last few years. It was time for redemption. So happy of my riding and the team effort. What a start of the season!" - Martin Maes

The race was super fun! Enjoyed every one of the stages. Had one big mistake on the first stage but the next 4 stages were great and I finished 3rd on the last few stages. Solid start to the season and excited for Tassie next week! - Noga Korem

It was a great weekend for the whole team to kick off the EWS season in Rotorua. I was happy to be able to put in the top-10 ride in front of the home crowd and then Martin winning and Noga top-5 gave us team of the day! Roll on the rest of the season! - Wyn Masters

Martin Maes

"Really stoked on how things went this past week. My first time racing with all the team and we did some good testing on the bike to get things dialed and I couldn’t be happier right now. I think that showed on Friday in the race and now I can’t wait for the rest of the 2019 season with everyone!" George Brannigan

"Storybook start to the season for GTFR! Everyone has worked so hard in the offseason and it showed this past week in Rotorua! Couldn’t be more proud of the team. Also, a big pat on the back to the staff for all of their hard work and dedication to pull everything off behind the scenes!"Steve Spencer, GT Sports Marketing Manager

Congratulations, Team!

<![CDATA[Martin Maes - The Best is Yet to Come]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/Martin-maes-the-best-is-yet-to-come/

Belgian phenom Martin Maes will keep the good times rolling with his GT family for the next three years. Now that the dust has settled on a stellar year, Maes can focus on preparing for more Enduro World Series (EWS) wins and more World Cup downhill victories in the 2019 season and beyond.

Since joining GT in 2013, Martin Maes has taken the EWS scene by storm, racing on some of the toughest courses and against fierce competitors globally. “I’ve grown up on GT bikes, and I can’t thank them enough for their support over the years,” said Maes. “I’m pumped to continue with GT and my goal of winning a World Championship. I look forward to riding all over the world on the EWS circuit and at other races with a team who believes in me and the sport of mountain biking.”

“Martin is a very gifted rider, and he has also always been both humble and professional. At the young age of 21, he brings a lot of experience to the team,” commented GTFR team manager Mark Maurissen. “I couldn’t be prouder of Martin and GTFR. We are going through this adventure together, and I can’t wait to keep watching Martin chase down medals all over the world.”

In 2018, Maes made history with a massive win at the World Cup Downhill Finals in La Bresse, France after taking the EWS Enduro win at Whistler Crankworx the week before. He followed up both wins with a silver medal at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in downhill in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

Over the years, Maes has climbed the ranks of the Enduro World Series, including EWS Junior Overall winner (2013), EWS Finale Winner (2016), and of course EWS Whistler Winner. Although Enduro is his passion, fans may see Maes continue to dabble in downhill. His primary discipline for the 2019 season is yet to be confirmed. According to Maurissen, “Martin wants to be world champion. Whether he will focus on downhill or enduro is still to be determined, and GT will support whatever decision he makes.”

<![CDATA[Martin Maes is Unstoppable]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/Martin-Maes-Is-Unstoppable/ When Two Podiums in a Row Are Not Enough...

Martin Maes

Why not make it three?

Martin Maes

First, he won the EWS in Whistler. The next week he stole the show at the final Downhill World Cup of the year and beat everyone at their own game. And now he's proven that he's a fully fledged beast on the bike by taking silver at the Downhill World Championships. Three podiums in a row, two firsts and a second.

Does it get much better than that?

We don't think so.

Martin Maes

Martin Maes, you are an animal. Congratulations from everyone in your GT family!

<![CDATA[Maes Makes History]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/maes-makes-history/

From a dry, dusty, EWS win one week to a muddy, wet World Cup DH win the next. Martin Maes makes history.

Coming off his win at the Whistler EWS, Martin Maes headed to the La Bresse DH World Cup to get back up to speed on the DH bike in time for World Champs. And up-to-speed he was.

Martin knew he could do quite well on the course and a top ten finish would be his goal. Come race day, wet conditions would put some riders off their game but Martin kept it clean and fast. As each racer came down course it was clear that Martin would finish in the top ten. But it wasn't until the final rider, Amaury Pierron, came across the line to confirm that Martin Maes had just made a new type of history. Back to back wins in EWS and DH.

Pure talent. A true champion.

"This was UNEXPECTED. The best win of my career by far. Coming in to the race, my biggest dream was to get in the top 5. When I walked the track on Wednesday I knew that I had the possibilities to do something good. A lot of tight corners which you have to carry a lot of speed and be precise on your bike.

I can’t thank enough GT Bicycles for their trust since the very beginning and all the people behind it. It still feels completely unreal... Beyond proud to put the new GT Fury where she deserves to stand, on top!"

- Martin Maes, GT Factory Racing

"The last few weeks have been some of the best in my career. Martin is writing history with his back to back EWS and WC win! He’s taking gravity racing to the next level. Anything can happen with World Championships and 2 more EWS races around the corner. To be continued...!"

- Mark Maurissen, GT Factory Racing Team Manager

Martin, we could not be more proud of you. Congratulations from everyone in your GT family!

<![CDATA[Martin Maes Rides Like a Boss]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/like-a-boss/

Martin Maes came into 2018 hungrier than ever, but when a separated shoulder set him out of the last round of the EWS in Columbia, his determination to return to the podium became more dogged than ever. A quick and focused recovery in Belgium meant that Martin was in good shape for the EWS in Olargues, France over the weekend. He and teammate Noga Korem had a tough weekend battling the weather and technical trails. Martin was able to fight back some time on Sunday and third spot on the podium, while Noga came in 11th. We could not be more proud!

<![CDATA[GT Wins Podiums and the Party at US Open of MTB]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/GT-Wins-Podiums-and-the-party/ Pouring rain couldn't put a damper on this year's US Open of Mountain Biking in Killington, Vermont. With the event in GT's own back yard, we couldn't say no to sponsoring the Downhill and Enduro events, and bringing staff, ambassadors and GT athletes from all-over the world along for the fun. 7 podiums, countless fist bumps and a crap ton of good times were had. Highlights from the weekend are below!

Wyn Masters came across the DH finish line with a wheelie good result (sorry, we had to). 3rd place!

"It was fun to come to the USA and ride, hang out and race with the GT family. I was stoked on beating my team manager, Mark Maurissen, and hope to carry the momentum onto the Whistler EWS!" - Noga Korem, GT Factory Racing

"Heading up to the US Open I wasn't sure if I would be able to compete due to a shoulder injury but with some rest and TLC from our team soignieur I was stoked to pull off third place! Having the whole GT crew together was the icing on the cake!" Rachel Strait, GT Wing Project

It was cool to have most of the GT family together, it doesn't happen very often. I had a good time racing the enduro and riding my Force in the bike park over the week. I was impressed by the quality of the trails at Killington Bike Park! - Martin Maes, GT Factory Racing

T-Mac sent it to second in the Whip-Offs followed by GT Coalition rider David Lieb who took 3rd, while Moto legend Doug Henry rode a modified GT Fury to first place in the Adaptive DH race.

Of course, it wouldn't be a GT party without Hans "Now Way" Rey!

"Awesome race and festival atmosphere at the US Open. Killington is such a great destination with a fun bike park and lots of trails for all skill levels. No matter if amateur, pro or just soaking in the event as a spectator its worth a visit, it sure will be in my calendar again for next year. Loved riding Blue Magic with moto legends Doug Henry and Ronnie Renner; and enjoyed watching Team GT race their hearts and bikes to the podiums in all the disciplines." - Hans Rey, GT Wingman

<![CDATA[DH World Cup Season is Back]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/dh-world-cup-season-is-back/

The GT Factory Racing Team kicked off the 2018 Downhill World Cup season with a trip to beautiful Losinj, Croatia. The course was real and rough, a good test to shake off the cobwebs at the start of the season! Our in-house TV personality Wyn Masters had a great season opener, finishing 44th on the day. Our new Junior racer, Joey Foresta, showed what he’s got by qualifying 4th, and coming 6th on race day. We cannot wait to see what he can do as he settles into the racing life! Geroge Brannigan is still recovering from a broken collarbone – look out for him on the race track soon!

Here is what the team had to say:

“The least you can say is that Croatia was a season opener to remember and repeat! Good to see that a venue like this was added to the calendar.

I’m proud about the way Joey handled his first world cup ever. He rode professional and smart over the last 2 weeks. Expect much more to come from this young man!

Our multi-talent Wyn swapped his EWS bike for GT’s new prototype DH machine and loved racing on this Island!

Unfortunately George Brannigan had to sit this one out after breaking his collarbone for the 3rd time. He got fixed up in New Zealand last week. The whole team wishes him a speedy recovery!” – Mark Maurissen, Team Manager

“Had the time of my life in Croatia! Had so much fun hanging out with the team and riding! I’m very happy with my result and excited for the rest of the season!” – Joey Foresta

“Lošinj, Croatia was a pretty cool venue for the first round of the World Cup DH series this year. not only was a track a real DH track and a challenge, the island itself was amazing, and it was actually my birthday that week too. So made the most of a good week together with all the team, going fishing, riding up mountains and then finally racing bikes, 44th place wasn't what I was hoping for coming in but all in all it was good to get the season started and looking forward to more good times in Fort William!” – Wyn Masters

Look out for GT Factory Racing next in Montagnes du Caroux on May 12 and 13 for round 3 of the Enduro World Series. ]]>

<![CDATA[Les Gets Podiums]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/les-gets-podiums/

European EWS Series Round 1, Val di Fassa Italy

GTFR's Israeli purveyor of fun, Noga Korem is always looking for ways to keep her training interesting so she dropped in on the first round of the European EWS series in Val di Fassa, Italy, with a few of her friends to race and take in some incredible food and scenery. With a strong field of competitors in attendance, the 5-stage race would be more than just a cruise through the Italian countryside. Noga started strong with a win on Stage 1, then kept up the momentum by winning four of the five stages taking the overall win! Noga now will pack up her trophy and bike and travel to Petzen Austria for the next round of the Enduro World Series next weekend.

Crankworx, Les Gets, France

Round 3 of the Crankworx World Tour took over the quaint village of Les Gets, France over the weekend. GT Wing Project athlete Tyler "TMac" McCaul is a busy man at the Crankworx events. Not only does he compete in the Dual Speed & Style, Whip Off's and Dual Slalom events he also is the co-host commentator of the Slopestyle event at each stop Crankworx stop. The Dual Speed & Style event wrangles up the racers and the Slopestyle riders combining talent and skill to see who can rip down the course with some technical tricks mixed in. Tyler is one of the fastest and most stylish riders out there and showed that as he worked his way through the elimination rounds all the way to the final. After two very close races, TMac would narrowly miss out on the win but was stoked nonetheless. Great job TMac!

Utah Gravity Series Round 2, Nordic Valley, Utah

GT's junior DH racer Joey Foresta is enjoying a bit of a break between World Cup races but that is not keeping him off of his bike. The GTFR rookie polished up his GT Sanction and took on some of the fastest racers in the Inter-Mountain region at the Utah Gravity Series event in Nordic Valley, Utah. With word of Foresta lining up to race it would get the betting pools going to see who would put down the fastest time of the day. With the likes of world-class racers such as Mitch Ropelato in attendance, it would keep things interesting. After everyone crossed the finish line and times were tabulated Joey would earn the win in his Junior Expert class and also the honor of the fastest time of the day against the Pro class! This 16-year-old is just getting started.

USABMX East Coast National/Summer Nationals

The summer BMX race series is in full swing and this past weekend was a busy one. USABMX held national events on both sides of the US with the Summer National event in Roseville, CA and the East Coast National in Trumbull, CT. Both are legendary tracks and had the good fortune of nice weather and great racing. Out on the West coast, young GT Factory BMX ripper Aiden Otten was running solo repping the GT colors and flying on his GT Speed Series Expert XL. "Rotten Otten" had one of the largest classes with 31 riders to do battle within the 11-year-old Expert division. Aiden would lead several of the qualifying rounds and was able to haul home the hardware from a hard fought for 4th, 5th, and a 6th place finish over three days of racing. GT had a tremendous presence at the East Coast National with the Powers Factory BMX team in attendance. The mobile shop and team pit were abuzz all weekend and the team riders were looking fast! Standout performances came from these Powers team members - 15-16 Mixed Open - PEYTON WENTZEL 17-20 Womens Cruiser - CHEYENNE NOUD 17-20 Womens - KRISTEN KLEIN 13 Cruiser - ELIJAH HEANEY 7 Expert - COGAN MARTIN-KERSEY 36-40 Expert - BRIAN SANTOS

<![CDATA[25 Years of Shred]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/25-years-of-shred/ In order to know where we’re going, we’ve got to know where we’ve been. From the RTS, to the LTS, to i-Drive, AOS and Independent Drivetrain, we’ve been innovating since the beginning. Where are we going next? Find out this summer as we celebrate 25 Years of Shred!

RTS
Rocker Tuned Suspension system gave the rider all the benefits of a rigid framed bicycle, with the added performance of full suspension. What made it tick? A small CNC machined aluminum rocker link.

LTS
As GT’s mountain bike success evolved, so did its suspension. In ‘96, GT introduced an aluminum frame with a classic, “four bars linkage” system, coined the LTS.

STS
The development of thermoplastic technology allowed GT to optimize high stress areas to take the abuse of downhill racing. GT introduced a full range of STS builds, including the DH Lobo which became the state of the art for long travel DH bikes.

I-Drive
In order to combat the ever-pervasive problem of jerky pedal stroke, GT introduced the first version of the i-Drive system in ’99. Two more generations of this platform followed featuring a “Flex Plate”, and later the “Dog Bone”.

ID
In the evolution of i-Drive, GT launched the Independent Drivetrain suspension system that further improved efficiency by separating suspension movement from the drivetrain. This minimized pedal feedback, allowing the rider to maintain momentum, first featured on the 2014 Fury.

AOS
GT’s Angle Optimized Suspension design separated the rider’s pedal stroke from the actual suspension, so all the effort you put into pedaling stays with your pedaling and your suspension only reacts when you need it to.

Visit the GT booth at The 2018 Sea Otter Classic to see our history of full-suspension on display, or follow us at @gtbicycles for a closer look at the bikes and updates from the show!

<![CDATA[GTFR GOES GRANDE]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/gtfr-goes-grande/ A big weekend for GT Factory Racing at the 2018 EWS Season Opener in Chile!

GTFR's Martin Maes started his 2018 Enduro World Series campaign off with a hard-fought 2nd place Lo Barnechea, Chile.

The young Belgian persevered with smart and fast riding over the two days and six stages of competition. Martin would battle his way over 5600 meters (18,000 feet) of descending where many suffered mechanical failures.

The team's newest member Noga Korem started out her week in Chile with a tumble, which turned into a cracked rib. The tough little Israeli was a warrior, mustered up the drive to complete the grueling race in 7th place overall in the Women's division.

Wyn Masters was the absolute crowd favorite in Chile. When he wasn't spending time taking pictures with fans, signing autographs or doing interviews he was out surfing the dry and loose trails of the EWS courses. Even with a fall on Stage 5 the wheelie-man would chalk up a 16th place in the field of over 320 men!

The consistency of the GT Factory Racing Team would earn the EWS #1 Team standing in a tie with the Cube Racing Team. What a great way to start the season! We could not be happier with the team dynamic with the amazing athletes and staff. It is truly a team effort and the success of the program comes from the tremendous support of the team staff and the GT Bicycles crew back in office along with all of the great team partners! It is now time to pack up the bikes and trophies and make our way north for the second stop of the EWS tour in Manizales, Colombia.

<![CDATA[Watch GT's Seriously Fun Movie!]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/watch-gts-seriously-fun-movie/

In early 2015, GT took to the streets of Los Angeles and Kansas City to uncover a plethora of untapped spots across these two vastly different cities. With Ben Ward, GT BMX product and team manager at the helm, the brand released two successful shorter web videos – GT in LA and Bleeding Kansas – to kick off the beginning of a new era for GT BMX.

"GT in LA and Bleeding Kansas were incredible for the brand and showed the industry what we could do as individuals and as a team. We wanted to make sure what we did next topped them," said Ward. “After seeing both edits, the new guys on the team were eager to start working on something original; that’s when the idea of a full-length video was proposed. The crew was fired up, and they started filming and stacking their own clips.

“Then, at the end of 2016, we reviewed their footage, jampacked with newly discovered spots and never-before-seen tricks; we knew we had something great in the making, and we began to see Seriously Fun emerge.”

Seriously Fun captures GT’s good times energy capitalizing on GT’s athletes’ signature riding styles and personalities. In Seriously Fun, viewers will see how seriously the team takes their fun from coast to coast in the US to Brazil, France, Germany, the UK, Taiwan, and more.

“It’s been a long time since GT has produced a full-length video and DVD. I can’t think of a better way to pay respect to our athletes who share the same passion for BMX. Seriously Fun reflects each personality through their approach to riding and filming,” added Ward.

When looking for partners to produce the video, Ride BMX was the obvious choice. GT has been an advertising partner with the magazine for two-and-a-half years, and most of the outlet’s editorial and video staff have been instrumental in many of GT’s recent online releases.

In addition, GT selected BMX industry videographer and editor Andrew Brady to bring Seriously Fun to life. It was Brady’s overall passion and excitement for the project which made him the main man for the job.

<![CDATA[All New 2018 Speed Series]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/All-New-2018-Speed-Series/

Part of GT’s BMX Race lineup for more than 20 years, the all-new Speed Series has been upgraded with advanced frame technology and bold new color and graphics. GT’s Speed Series is an elite racing bike at a great value.

"During the design process of the new Speed Series, we made sure to pay respect to a frame that has changed the standard in BMX race for more than two decades", said Ben Ward, GT BMX Race Product Manager. "We worked closely with our team riders globally to deliver a bike that is ready to lead them to the top of the podium."

Since it first burst onto the BMX scene, the Speed Series brought victory after victory on the track thanks to GT’s attention to balanced weight and stiffness. The 2018 Speed Series bikes have been designed with an even lighter weight alloy frame than its earlier predecessors, which continue to deliver a balanced ride that allow riders to go farther faster but always be in control.

Also part of the line are the Speed Series junior level bikes, the Speed Micro 20, Mini, and Junior. These bikes have the same first-class specs as their larger counterparts. The Speed Series is available in 8 models with a price range of $599-$1,049 USD. The Speed Series’ alloy frameset is also available at $399 USD.

<![CDATA[Spoke Tales Season 2, Ep 7 - The Big Finale]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/spoke-tales-season-2-ep-7-the-big-finale/

The whole GT Factory Racing Team descended on Finale Ligure for the last hurrah of the season. There was a little drama but the good times outweighed the bad with a second place finish for Martin and second place for the team. We are proud of the team for smashing out a great event and for having one seriously fun season!

It's always great to go to Finale to close of the season. It's good to see a lot of DH riders show up to come and ride this sick event. Pits on the promenade, beach 10m away, best food in the world and not to forget; some of the most beautiful trails a rider can wish for! Martin was leading the race after Stage 2 but at the end of this stage he hit his derailleur pretty hard, bending the hanger. His gears were skipping on the way down stage 3, resulting in 2 minor crashes and loosing 14 sec on Damien Oton. Bummer if you know that Martin got second this weekend, only 14 sec behind Damien! At the age of 20, we do know his time will come. GTFR was the number 2 team of the weekend and it was great to have Sam Dale and Rachel Strait making it over and joining the team on the podium! Thanks Tom and Greggy for the hard work!—Mark Maurissen, GT Factory Racing Team Manager

[Finale is] always a nice season ender. I love ending on a good note and the goal was to finish on the podium. Such a hard battle all weekend long and it felt good to be consistent. Good work team! Thanks to everyone who was involved this season!—Martin Maes

Lovely summer holiday at the beach to close of the season with the usual great trails and food! Despite how physically demanding the racing was, I finished every day with a smile on my face.—Sambo

It was my first time to Finale and it did not disappoint. The trails on day 1 are much different from what I’m used to in the US! Lot’s of tight corners? I was able to make up some time at day 2 and really pushed myself hard with all the physical stages!—Rachel Strait

After being injured for most of the season I was super excited to be back racing in Finale. A tough weekend with hard and physical demanding stages. But no better way to end the season with trails ending up at the sea and eating gelato. The team killed it with a 2nd place overall!—Anneke Beerten

Finale as always was a good season ender, some tough physical trails this year but still some good racing, and Martins 2nd capped along with the team getting 2nd for the day capped off a good season!—Wyn Masters

Cheers to the fans for a great season, see you all next year for more good times!

<![CDATA[Spoke Tales, Season 2 Ep. 6: Val di Sole ]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/Spoke-Tales-Season-2-Ep-6-Val-di-Sole/

The 2017 UCI World Cup season draws to an end with one of the best tracks on the circuit - Val Di Sole.

Bad luck strikes on qualification day for Wyn with a flat tire on one of the endless steep rock sections, and Sam misses the cut for finals after rolling around in the dirt.

Brook and Jackson make it through to the big show but with conditions continually changing for the worse, staying on point becomes more and more of a battle.

Unfortunately, Brook loses his front end near he top of his race run and goes off course. Not wanting to throw the run away, he puts on a show for the crowds by going as big as possible down the rest of the track. With blown out conditions and brown pow for days, it's an epic finals run.

<![CDATA[Spoke Tales, Season 2 Ep. 5: Whistler is Serious Business]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/spoke-tales-season-2-5-whistler-is-serious-business/

The team arrives in Whistler for Crankworx and the 7th round of the 2017 Enduro World Series. The EWS is always a big day out on the bike, and really special in the racers eyes. Wyn and Rachel are feeling confident and end up having good races, with Rachel feeling mentally and physically stronger than ever. During practice, Anneke reinjures her bad should and has to pull out of the race. On race day, Martin is on a flier and sitting in 4th overall until he crashes at the end of stage three. With Martin showing signs of a concussion, he and the team decide it’s best not to continue with the race.

Back in January, Andrew Cho, GT’s Digital Marketing Manager, became paralyzed from the neck down when a blood vessel exploded in his neck. In the seven months since, he’s had to re learn how to do everything – including how to walk. During Crankworx, Cho decides to take on a huge goal – running the Sea Wheeze half marathon in Vancouver. Seven months ago the thought of walking let alone running seemed far-fetched, but Cho is more determined than ever to get back up to full speed in life.

During the event, Brook gets time for a few hot laps in on a favorite trail - Dirt Merchant. And the bonus surprise happens when UK GT Ambassador Joey Gough rolls through each of the heats at the Pump Track Challenge to take bronze in the Pro Women's category.

It’s a week of serious fun for the team before they head off to race their final events of the season.

After a bit of a battle in Fort William last week, the team’s luck has turned. The boys were amped for the fast conditions, loose corners and high-speed jumps of the Leogang Bike Park.

After a mechanical Brook had to eject from his bike crashing down a 15ft drop only to put in a solid qualification run the same day. All the boys made it comfortably into the finals and things are looking up again for the GT Factory Racing downhill team.

The GT team opened up the season at full throttle in New Zealand with the first round of the EWS and Crankworx Rotorua! Rotorua had more than plenty in store: heli drops, swimming holes, wet and wild trail conditions, and a couple of podium finishes!

Wyn, living up to his name, pushed the pace at the EWS and snagged the top step in his home country, while Martin would end the day in 13th. Anneke finished strong, getting 10th overall in the Pro Women's race. Rachel showed true grit pushing it on race day but was sidelined after stage 4 due to a hard crash and a broken finger.

Pushing through muddy conditions, Brook and Jackson placed 24th and 25th in the IXS DH finals.

To close out Crankworx, T-Mac sent it into third at the Whip Off Championships!

“I’m stoked to have Chase on the team,” said Ben Ward, GT BMX Team and Product Manager. “I first met Chase in 2014 on a road trip to Detroit, Michigan. <![CDATA[2016 GT BMX FS TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/bmx-fs-new/

GT Bicycles Announces New 2016 BMX Freestyle Team Additions

Wilton, Conn. – May 17, 2016 – GT Bicycles, a premium brand of Dorel Industries (TSX: DII.B, DII.A), today announced the addition of three members to its BMX Freestyle program for 2016, Dan Conway, Albert Mercado and Jeff “With Glasses” Ludwig. All are strong additions to round out a crew that includes Brian Kachinsky.

“Collectively, we have done enough grinds to circle the globe a few times,” said Brian Kachinsky, GT Freestyle BMX Pro. “This is a dope crew, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the year. Each of these guys has their own unique riding style. Everyone has a good sense of humor and great attitude toward the sport of BMX.”

Dan Conway, a Philadelphia area powerhouse, has stamped his name on some of the heaviest street set-ups across the US. His work ethic, coupled with a positive attitude, gives Conway the grit needed to conquer unique street spots and hang with the GT crew. Conway’s positivity and heavy tricks will excite and rally the team to push themselves as hard as they can.

Alberto Mercado has earned his place among the legendary tradition of San Diego shredders with his style, power and finesse. Mercado brings an easy approach to riding, consistently putting out video parts that are both progressive and fun to watch. His hunger for projects that exercise his creative abilities makes him a welcome addition to the GT BMX Freestyle team.

GT rounds out the BMX Freestyle team with Jeff “With Glasses” Ludwig, the reigning East Coast Crooked Grind Champion. Hailing from Spotswood, New Jersey, the holy land of street riding, Ludwig has left his mark on the industry in a short period time by showcasing his style in impactful video parts. Ludwig’s respect for BMX aligns perfectly with the laidback, but hardworking GT freestyle vibe.

“I’m stoked to have a complete team with Brian, Dan, Al and Jeff,” said Ben Ward, GT BMX Freestyle Product and Team Manager. “We’ve been friends for a long time, and I can’t wait to get out on the road with them as part of the GT crew. It’s bound to lead to some BMX magic.”

<![CDATA[PRINCE LIAM TAKES THE TOP SPOT!]]> https://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/news/liam-wins-manchester/

April 10th UCI World Cup #2 Manchester, England Some call him Prince Liam, however he is the King of the Manchester SX track! We are very proud to write our first race report including Liam and have him take a MASSIVE win on his GT Speed Series AL! Liam has done something no other athlete has done before winning a World Cup 4 years in a row. There have been 4 World Cup events in Manchester and the streak continues with only one winner, Liam Phillips!

The Week started off like any other for Liam. This is his home track, where he trains daily. The guy has every inch of the track dialed and it showed throughout the weekend’s events. On the qualifying day Liam easily walked away with each lap winning all three motos.

Come race day we still saw Liam in his usual 1st place spot all day, but he wasn’t having the fastest laps around the track. Usually Liam is in gate 1 every time as he has the fastest laps around the track and gets first lane choice. We saw him out front, but a few other riders were getting faster lap times in some of the other qualification rounds. This added to the drama, could Liam do it again? Was he able to continue his winning streak?

As the 8 riders lined up in the gate for the final Liam was in gate three, with two of the top USA riders on his inside. One of them being the current World Cup points leader and last World Cup winner Corben Sharrah. The gate went down and Liam had his typical amazing start! He put that perfect lap together and was once again crowned the champion in front of his home crowd, only this time doing it on a GT!

After the main event while on the podium Liam said, “This one meant a lot to me today, it was a rough morning and I really wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to pull off another win, I am ecstatic to win another World Cup in front of the home crowd and it means a lot to share this podium with my countryman!” Liam’s friend and training partner Kyle Evans would finish in 2nd followed by Swiss rider Renaud Blanc rounding out the podium.

Now we have a week off and it is off to South Carolina for the next stop of the USA BMX North American SX series! Thank you for your continued support and see you at the races!

The 2016 GT Factory BMX Team is proud to be supported by Alpine Stars, GoPro cameras, Tioga Tires, BOX Components, Alienation Rims, Troy Lee Designs, SDG Components, ODI Grips, Stealth Hubs, KMC Chains, Skullcandy, Rockwell Watches, Only Protein, Sapim Spokes and Stasis Racing Products.

This last weekend marks the beginning of the 2016 USA BMX nation series and what better place to start things out then in Las Vegas! We had a small team head out, but as always they did an awesome job representing. Check out the below for individual rider highlights. Kicking things off is our little shredder Aiden Otten. I’m sure Aiden wanted to start off the year a little better then he did, but Vegas is always one of the hardest races of the year due to how small the track is. He was seen trying to jump everything he possibly could during practice but come race time all he could make happen was a 7th place on Sunday. Next up, rocking that big red #1 is Dougie Butcher! This kid had a rough finish to last year due to injuries, but is coming out swinging already this season. He was looking good all weekend and left Vegas with a 3rd in his cruiser class and two 4th place finishes in his age class. He will be the kid to watch this year in the 17-18X class this season! Saving the best for last the USA BMX National Number One girl and GT Superstar Sophia Foresta! This girl has the #1 plate on her bike for a reason. She has been putting in some major work the last few months and it showed. She came to Vegas with a goal of winning and did nothing but that taking home the big WINS both days in Vegas! Now we have about a month off before we head to Phoenix for the first round of the USA BMX Pro series. The whole team will be in attendance for this event and we are looking forward to having everyone together.
